Role: Anchor Project Lead

Location: Dewsbury, Mirfield and various locations across Kirklees

Salary: £26,936 FTE – £17,472 Pro Rata

Hours: 24 hours per week

Contract: July 2025 – 31st March 2026

Organisation Overview:

​Support to Recovery (S2R) is a registered mental health and wellbeing charity providing a range of creative, wellbeing and nature-based services across Kirklees. We are seeking an experienced individual to lead on our role as Community Anchor organisation for Dewsbury and Mirfield.

Purpose:

Through our role as Community Anchor for Dewsbury and Mirfield, we will connect, unite and develop trusting relationships in the community. We will also support community groups to set-up, flourish, be connected and enable better health and wellbeing outcomes for their residents.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Undertake consultation and active listening in Dewsbury and Mirfield communities, to better understand gaps and needs and to action means of support to build local capacity.

• Work in partnership with other partner Anchors and Third Sector Leaders to share good practice and to identify gaps in service and local support.

• Enable grassroots development and provide experience, guidance and training for any local individual or group to bridge gap areas.

• Organise People Helping People events with TSL to bring community organisations and other voluntary sector enterprises together to share good practice and disseminate funding and opportunities for collaboration.

• Provide organisational health support by offering guidance on governance, funding and retention of volunteers.

• Offer support and mediation to groups who have internal issues with their committees  /trustees to prevent failure of service delivery to the community.

• Where appropriate, arrange or personally provide taster activities as a way of supporting local engagement initiatives and support / train groups to provide social connection sessions that will include new learning and upskilling.

• Develop a healthy community partnership across sectors, offering a diverse range of support, lending experience in all types of community settings, working alongside key partners and welcoming new partners to extend the range and flexibility of this project.

• Set out strategic measures with key influencers to ensure capacity building and sustainability is targeted and addressing community issues.

• Forge strong links within the local voluntary sector, with external providers, Kirklees teams, PCNs and Social Prescribing teams to develop a smoother pathway of connectivity.

• Support the recruitment of volunteers for groups by assisting with job descriptions, volunteer training and volunteer induction processes.

• Attend and organise co-produced community events to promote community initiatives, collaborative working and the anchor offer in community settings alongside other services.

• Develop new contacts and relationships with local businesses and through corporate responsibility initiatives, to support engagement in disadvantaged areas.

• Provide evidence of support to groups through Anchor quarterly monitoring and Anchor case studies.

 

Essential Skills:

Networking across communities and sectors

• Working on community capacity and resilience building projects / initiatives

• Working with people who are living with mental and emotional distress with a focus on recovery, self-help and wellbeing

• Knowledge of how creativity, learning and environmental activities are important factors in developing and maintaining personal wellbeing

• Working within a wider team of people and maintaining a project leadership role

• Basic understanding of funding / fundraising in smaller charities

• Volunteer management / coordination

• Data protection and GDPR

• Safeguarding procedures

 

Desirable Skills:

• Local knowledge and awareness of the culturally diverse area of Dewsbury and Mirfield

• Community languages

• Experience of working in a political environment         

 

Personal Attributes:
• A flexible approach that enables positive working in a small, busy organisation where every day brings new challenges

• Good people skills and the ability to network effectively

• Good organisational, IT and communication skills

• An empathic and understanding attitude

Your own transport is essential.

You must also be self-motivated as the role requires independent working, but you will be supported by the Senior Manager and the wider staff team.
